NSSED Gets New Name: TrueNorth Educational Cooperative 804

TrueNorth Educational Cooperative 804

The Northern Suburban Special Education District, or NSSED, debuts a new name — TrueNorth Educational Cooperative 804 — on July 1.

The educational cooperative provides special education and related services, coaching, and consultation to 18 districts, including Lake Forest Districts 67 and 115.

“Continuing in our Every Learner, Every Day mission, we are rebranding to TrueNorth to reflect our values: justice, inclusion, and equity,” said Assistant Superintendent for Technology, Communication, and Data Services Mary Morgan Ryan. “Our new name will allow us to reach a wider audience across the region, supporting more students as they are included in general education environments.”

According to the cooperative’s website:

  • “True” reflects that the organization is committed to its values.
  • “North” reflects the organization’s legacy and current program and service names, its location in the northern suburbs, and references each learner’s individual journey.
  • “Educational Cooperative” differentiates the organization from a typical school district and more accurately reflects its unique 18-member district composition.
  • 804 is the organization’s official district number from the state of Illinois.
