BCBSIL to Provide Identity Protection Services to Its NIHIP Members

We are pleased to announce that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) will be providing identity protection services to NIHIP employees and their families who are covered by BCBSIL.

BCBSIL is making these services available to give you some peace of mind, and are intended to protect health and personal information. Provided by Experian – at no cost to you – these services complement the security and data protection measures BCBSIL now has in place.

The services include:

ProtectMyID®

• Experian credit report upon sign up
• Daily one-bureau credit monitoring
• U.S.-based customer support seven days/week
• Online and phone enrollment
• Choice of email or mail delivery
• $1 million identity theft insurance
• Fraud resolution team
• Comprehensive educational resources

Enroll via Blue Access for MembersSM (BAM)

Log into your BAM account at bcbsil.com.

If you do not have a BAM account, you can register in three easy steps:
Go to bcbsil.com/member
Click Register Now
Use the information on your BCBSIL ID card to complete the registration process.

Click on Identity Protection Program under Quick Links.

Click on "Enroll as an adult" to enroll. Other adult members within your plan should use the same link to enroll, including any children 18 years of age or older.

If you have children, once you've enrolled in ProtectMyID, the parent or legal guardian can click on "Enroll dependents under the age of 18" to enroll and add your children under 18 years of age.

Q: Am I automatically enrolled in all Experian's services as an employee or member through NIHIP?
A: No. You need to proactively sign up with Experian to take advantage of all parts of the identity protection services.

Q: What will it cost me?
A: This service is being provided at no cost. Experian will not ask you for payment information or try to sell new services to you.

Q: Will members be subject to upselling by Experian?
A: No. Experian will not ask you for payment information or try to sell new services to you.

Q: Will I always be eligible?
A: Not necessarily. These identity protection services are available to you as long as you remain an eligible BCBSIL member through NIHIP. The coverage will include eligible adults and covered dependents who have a BCBSIL health insurance policy through NIHIP.

Q: Is there a time limit on these services?
A: These services are available to you as long as you remain an eligible BCBSIL member through NIHIP. The coverage will include eligible adults and covered dependents who have a BCBSIL health insurance policy through NIHIP.

Q: Doesn't BCBSIL already provide identity protection services if there's a data breach?
A: The identity protection services BCBSIL offers for pre- and post-breach are the same. However, the length of time these services are available to you may vary.

Pre-breach services: Once you enroll, the pre-breach services continue as long as you remain an eligible BCBSIL member.

Post-breach services: Once you enroll, post-breach identity protection services tend to remain in effect for only one or two years.
