About Us

Thank you for your interest in Sheridan Elementary School. Sheridan is located at 1360 N. Sheridan Road in the community of Lake Forest, Illinois.

Sheridan serves a population of students from Pre-Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. The student enrollment at Sheridan is approximately 230 students. Our school mascot is Spark the Shark. Many parents choose to live in Lake Forest due to our reputation for academic excellence, and we at Sheridan uphold that reputation through our work to meet the needs of all our Sheridan Sharks!

Sheridan students are provided with an environment where they are consistently challenged and motivated to do their best. Together, administrators, staff members, and special service professionals partner with the community to engage every child in a rigorous curriculum at Sheridan. Core subjects studied include language arts, math social studies, and science. Sheridan students are also fortunate to participate in music, art, wellness, Spanish, and library and technology skills in addition to their core areas of study. Social/emotional skills are embedded throughout all curricular areas, as well as school-wide expectations for behavior.

Sheridan also houses the Community of Learners (COL) Pre-School for students ages 3-5. The classroom includes a blend of typically developing preschoolers, with preschoolers with diverse needs. The purpose of the pre-school is to optimize the diverse potential of each child while nurturing diversity in an inclusive, developmentally appropriate program. The COL uses Creative Curriculum that is aligned with the Illinois Early Childhood Standards, and focuses on social/emotional, self-help, thinking, and speech/language development in an inclusive environment. This program is staffed by District 67 and includes both a General and Special Education Teacher, as well as special services personnel.

The Sheridan staff and students are surrounded by a wealth of resources within District 67 and in our community. All Sheridan Sharks benefit from the volunteer efforts of our Sheridan APT and the Spirit of 67 Foundation; both of these organizations work to support the education and enrichment of all students by supporting field trips that enhance curricular content; guest speakers; fine arts performances; visiting authors, and by providing grants to Sheridan staff members to further enrich their instruction.
