Winter Weather Guidelines

As we anticipate the onset of winter weather, please be informed that Districts 67 & 115 has established a protocol for addressing potential school closures, emergency shutdowns, or the implementation of remote learning days due to adverse weather conditions.

Decision-Making Process

The paramount concern of Districts 67 & 115 is the well-being and safety of our students, staff, and parents. The determination to close schools or adjust start and dismissal times in response to emergency situations is a complex one, influenced by a variety of factors:

  1. Updates from the NOAA National Weather Service (NWA) and Wind Chill reports.

  2. Local weather forecasts from reputable sources.

  3. Input from local law enforcement and municipal agencies.

  4. Reports received from our contracted bus company.

  5. Feedback from our Buildings/Grounds staff.

  6. Consultations with neighboring school district administrators.

Authority for Decision-Making

While the District relies on a variety of resources to guide our decision-making process, the final authority to close schools rests with the Superintendent and District Administrators.

Timing of the Decision

Whenever possible, we strive to reach a decision prior to 6:00 am on the day of school. When severe weather conditions are anticipated, the determination may be made the evening prior.

Communication with Parents

Parents/guardians will receive information through the BrightArrow Notification System, using the contact information provided during online registration. Additionally, emergency alert messages will be posted on the District website and all school pages.

Please note that announcements will only be made in the event of school closures. No announcements will be issued to confirm that schools will be open.

If you wish to review or modify your notification settings in BrightArrow, please consult the information below.

In the event that your contact information is incorrect, please promptly notify your school office.

Impact on After-school and Extracurricular Activities

In the event of a school closure, all scheduled school activities for that day will be canceled. For further details and updates please visit the District website (School and Emergency Closings).
